In Nigeria we have a variety of peanuts called ‘Epa’ nuts, they are a smaller, more intense variety of peanut. The secret to making CHIKA’S peanuts so intense, rich and creamy is their freshness and purity, CHIKA’S peanuts arrive to market in as little as four weeks with nothing added and only 1% salt.
CHIKA’S works directly with communities who grow Epa, the three-step process that turns them into CHIKA’S hand-toasted peanuts has been tweaked and refined over generations. Firstly, Epa nuts are harvested fresh, shelled and then a lightly salted water solution is sprinkled over them. Secondly, they’re dried in the sun, so the salt marinades the nut. The majority of peanuts in the UK get to market between 2-4 years! Once the nuts are harvested, they are graded into sizes and bleached to make them all look the same. They are then deep fried to give the stale nuts crunch and then heaped with salt and flavours as they no longer have any natural flavour.

The quality and ripeness of our plantain make them harder to work with, but this is the best way to eat plantains. CHIKA’S plantain crisps are made by shallow frying the plantains, for a healthier snack that still achieves the ultimate crunch.
Plantains contain more vitamins A and C than banana, and they are rich sources of vitamin B6, potassium and fibre, making CHIKA’S sweet and crisp plantains one of the healthiest snacks available. Compared to regular vegetable crisps, CHIKA’S plantain crisps have 30% less fat, over 80% less salt and 1 and a half times more fibre.
CHIKA’S plantain crisps have only three ingredients – sunflower oil, salt and chilli. They do not need anything else and neither will you once you’ve tried them!
